Quick Update

Well, I haven’t been keeping on top of this blog of late, so shame on me.

Much has been happening, I have had my graduation and worked a short 2 month stint in a design studio and am now trying to establish myself as self employed.  suspect this means I will be very poor for a considerable time but if I don’t give it a bash now I will only regret it.

So far I have done some work for The Renew Involvement Center, a mental health drop in center in Lincoln, and I am already working on some exciting new projects for them. I have done some in-shop graphics for SK Motorcycles who are also based in Lincoln and I have also pre-booked a 6 month stint in InVitro Gallery to display different artwork and illustrations each month starting October.

Below are some images of work I have done lately and there is a link in the tool bar at the top of this page to InVitro Gallery. InVitro features edgy work from up and coming local artists and designers and is definitely worth a visit, especially as each month the displays are completely new so there is always something new to see.

Final Show and InVitro

Well the final show has been and gone. Show E11even boasted a huge turnout on the private view night [Friday 3rd June] and I was pleasantly surprised that 13 of my friends and family made it to the event! I was over the moon so a special thank you to them for their support.

Since I handed in the last of my work at uni I have been working on the Creative Beehive identity and website, which will be unveiled at some point in the near future. I have also been making cards, each one completely unique with a one off hand drawn illustration. I have also been amassing a range of illustrations for July when I will be exhibiting at the InVitro gallery in The Mall, Lincoln. I also intend to have some cards and other smaller products on sale at the exhibition so it will be well worth a peek.

But for now I will leave you with some images of my most recent doodles and of my display board at show E11even. Show E11even is open to the public 10am-3pm Monday-Friday from now until 17th of June. It is situated on the second floor of Thomas Parker House, Silver Street, Lincoln LN2 1HJ. Go along and enjoy!

This week’s new illustrations.

Yesterday I did four new illustrations for my Final Major Project. My eyes are only just recovering, eep!

My FMP was to design promotional material for a hypothetical exhibition of works by various artists who’s work has been influenced by the subject of mental health disorders. Along with this I also produced a collection of my own material for this exhibit based on my own experiences with bipolar. In total I have produced eight illustrations ranging from A2 down to just over A6. The first four illustrations were posted up on here a few entries back and the four which I have done this week are linked into this post along with a few of the posters for the hypothetical event [don’t turn up for it, you will be rather disappointed].

Each of the illustrations I have produced have been inspired by different extracts from my journals, which I have kept over the years. It has been a very personal project and it has been hugely challenging to share these inner thoughts with the outside world but it has also been rewarding to make something positive out of all of the negative mess inside of the journals.

Quick disclaimer; The sentiments conveyed by the illustrations aren’t what I genuinely believe on a day to day basis but rather the feelings which take hold when I am in one of my ‘down’ periods. I am sharing them in a hope that it will give some insight, not to express any opinions.

Degree Show Preperations

The studio space is taking shape, the whole class have worked so hard. The show is nearly here!

I now have my allocated space and the project chosen for it is my YCN Ted Baker project. Today I will be sending my boards to print and helping with the finishing touches to the paint work in the studio ready for all of the work to be hung.

After that it will be a quick walk to my own studio where I will be barricading myself in for the weekend. I’ve got to revisit some previous projects and retouch some of them before then building a nice new digital portfolio. Plus any other tasks I may have forgotten about. So should be a busy weekend. Feel free to bring me energy drinks and sweeties!

I’m getting very excited about the show, I can’t wait to see everyone’s work up, there are so many great designs! Come along to the show, you won’t be disappointed. Here are the facebook and twitter pages for show e11even;

In My Own Time Zone.

Here I am again, early hours of the morning and drawing away and tinkering with projects. I seem to be at my most creative whilst the rest of Lincoln sleeps. I guess I just have my own little time zone. Either that or I’m beginning to develop insomnia.

Currently I’m working on a project where I am designing an exhibition for work by various artists which is inspired or influenced by mental illness, in particular bipolar. I read ‘Beyond Reason: Art and Psychosis Works From the Prinzhorn Collection’ a fascinating book which really inspired and helped to define this project. For the outcome I intend to design the identity for the show and promotional material then also produce several pieces for the exhibition. It’s an interesting subject which holds some personal meaning to me so I’m really getting into it. Should have visuals ready to post up soon so watch this space. Don’t forget to subscribe to my blog so that you can be the very first to see my latest design work.
